Bjorn Frins
From a young age, Joep developed a love for theater in all its many forms. This resulted in years of singing lessons, acting lessons, and stage experience varying from local amateur productions to professional national musical productions.
Joep Hupperetz is a dramaturg and theatre professional who received his Master of Arts in Theatre Studies from the University of Amsterdam in 2021. During his studies, he gained valuable experience in the opera and theatre world, including work as second assistant director and assistant dramaturg at Opera Zuid. He also served as dramaturg and librettist for IDIOSYNCRATIC at Dutch National Opera’s Opera Forward Festival, where he demonstrated his flair for both classical and contemporary storytelling.
Between 2017 and 2019, Joep worked for two seasons as a producer with JONG DeLaMar. Since 2020, he has been resident dramaturg at Opera Zuid.
Alongside his work at Opera Zuid, Joep has shown his versatility in projects such as a new adaptation of Salieri’s Armida at Opera Nijetrijne (2023) and a reimagining of Brecht’s Die Rundköpfe und die Spitzköpfe for Het Brecht Trio/IJ Salon/Kurt Weill Fest Dessau. In the summer of 2025, Opera Zuid’s Der Schauspieldirektor was presented at the Buxton International Festival (UK).
This season, Joep is engaged as dramaturg for the world premiere of Atman (Leonard Evers/Bart Moeyaert), a new production of Brecht & Weill’s Die Dreigroschenoper directed by Servé Hermans, and as assistant director/dramaturg for Les Enfants Terribles.
